Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PNG UP, long-term image hosting, and preserving your digital content.
Getting Started
No, you can upload images without creating an account. However, unclaimed images may be deleted at any time to free up storage space. To protect your images and guarantee long-term storage, we strongly recommend creating a free account, claiming ownership of your uploads, and subscribing for one of the plans.
If you uploaded an image without an account, you can claim it later by:
- Creating a free account (or logging in)
- Visiting the image page
- Clicking the "Claim Ownership" button
Once claimed, the image is associated with your account and protected according to your plan.
We support all major image formats including PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP, SVG, and more. We may convert images to PNG or similar formats for optimal web compatibility, or retain the original format depending on the use case.
The current maximum file size is 32MB per image. This is sufficient for high-quality images suitable for web sharing and embedding.
Plans & Pricing
We believe in long-term digital preservation. Too many image hosting services have shut down or deleted user content after a few years (GeoCities, Photobucket, Imgur). Our multi-decade plans ensure your images remain accessible for the long haul, whether for personal archives, documentation, or professional portfolios.
When your plan expires, your images enter a grace period. We'll notify you via email with options to renew. After the grace period, images will be marked for deletion if not renewed.
Yes! You can upgrade from a shorter plan to a longer one at any time. You cannot downgrade to a shorter plan. Once you've purchased the Century (100-year) plan, you're at the maximum tier.
- Free: 1GB storage, no guaranteed retention, images may be deleted to free space.
- Decade (10 years): 1GB storage, guaranteed for 10 years.
- Generation (50 years): 1GB storage, guaranteed for 50 years.
- Century (100 years): 1GB storage, guaranteed for 100 years.
All paid plans are one-time payments for the full duration. Pay once for 10, 50, or 100 years, no monthly subscriptions, no recurring charges. This ensures your images remain hosted without worrying about subscription renewals.
Due to the long-term nature of our service and immediate provisioning of storage, all sales are final. However, if you experience technical issues or billing errors, please contact us at our info email address and we'll work with you to resolve the situation.
Storage & Security
We employ several strategies:
- Distributed storage: Multiple redundant copies across different physical locations
- Conservative pricing: One-time fees are calculated to cover decades of storage costs
- Contractual obligations: Legal commitments that transfer with any business ownership changes
Yes. We use industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmission
- Encrypted password storage using secure hashing algorithms
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Access controls and authentication mechanisms
See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
When you attempt to upload a file that would exceed your storage limit, you'll receive a clear error message showing your current usage, limit, and the file size. You can either delete existing images to free up space or upgrade to a higher-tier plan.
Currently, you can download images individually from your files page. We're working on a bulk export feature that will allow you to download all your images as a ZIP archive. This feature is coming soon!
Using the Service
After uploading, you'll receive a direct link to your image. You can also get embed codes for various platforms including:
- Direct URL (for simple linking)
- HTML image tags
- Markdown
- BBCode (for forums)
- AsciiDoc, Creole, and more
Absolutely! Direct linking and embedding is not just allowed, it's encouraged. That's the whole point of our service. Use our images on websites, forums, documentation, social media, or anywhere else you need reliable image hosting.
Yes! We provide a simple REST API for uploading, managing, and retrieving images programmatically. You can generate API keys from your account settings. API documentation is available for developers who want to integrate PNG UP into their applications or workflows.

Account Management
You can delete your account from the Account Settings page. You'll need to enter your password and confirm the deletion. Warning: Account deletion is permanent and will delete all your images and data. If you have an active paid plan, your storage rights will be forfeited.
When you delete your account, all images associated with your account are marked for deletion and will be permanently removed from our servers. This action cannot be undone. If you want to preserve specific images, download them before deleting your account.
Yes, you can update your email address from the Account Settings page. You'll need to verify the new email address to complete the change.
Click "Forgot password?" on the login page, enter your email address, and we'll send you a password reset link. Follow the instructions in the email to set a new password.
